CE514: Building and Fire Codes - Rooftop PV Considerations

There are several codes which govern the safe installation of PV systems, in addition to the more commonly-referenced electrical codes (such as the NECĀ®). Since PV systems are often attached to rooftops, the building codes provide guidance on how to accomplish this safely. The fire codes also provide guidance on how PV systems can be safely attached to buildings to keep occupants and emergency workers safe in the event of a fire.

This course will cover the building and fire codes that are specifically relevant to both residential and commercial PV installations on rooftops, including the International Building Code (IBC); the International Residential Code (IRC); and the International Fire Code (IFC), providing a general overview of what each code requires. This course is based on the 2018 editions of these codes, but does note some requirements of previous versions (2012 and 2015) if they vary from 2018 requirements.
